This year's European Rolling Stock Forum was marked by the introduced innovations and planned investments in the passenger and freight rolling stock sector.
Michał Zięba, HANTON’s Managing Partner, participated in the second debate within the Forum which was entirely devoted to freight services. The most vital issues discussed during the debate were the progressive professionalization of rolling stock companies, providing the necessary flexibility to carriers in the provision of transport services, and the extraordinary increase in trade at railway border crossings with Belarus and Ukraine.
Zięba emphasized the risks associated with the turnover of used rolling stock that may have both technical and formal defects which may be of great importance in its further resale or in the event of a railway accident.
The participants of the debate mutually agreed that the continued demand for platform wagons for transporting containers will lead to the prices’ increase and it will make their purchase difficult. This trend will be intensified as a result of the expected intermodal competition organized by the Centre for EU Transport Projects.
