HANTON Law Firm partner participates in ETCS Limited Supervision conference - safety, interoperability and digitization

Last week there was a very important conference organized by the Railway Transport Authority entitled. “ETCS Limited Supervision - Safety, Interoperability and Digitalization”. Michał Zięba, PhD - Managing Partner of HANTON Szalc Zięba & Partners had the pleasure of leading the panel discussion “Switching off Class B Systems Challenges and Benefits”, which was attended by representatives of PKP Intercity, the Association of Local Government Railway Carriers, the Association of Independent Railway Carriers and manufacturers of railroad traffic control systems.

The topic is all the more important because right now work is well advanced on the new National Implementation Plan for the Technical Interoperability Specification “Control”, which will define strategic directions for the development of the area of rail traffic control.

The main theme of the conference was the safety of railroad operations and ensuring railroad interoperability. Participants considered how to increase safety on Polish tracks, while not giving up the high speed of trains. Topics discussed during the conference included:

  • Why is the ERTM Strategy necessary in Poland and what should the new ERTMS NCP look like?
  • Installation of which Limited Supervison variant is needed and what benefits will it bring?
  • Challenges and benefits of disabling Class B systems.

From the Law Firm's side, we congratulate the organizers for raising such important strategic issues and for the high level of content!
