An important event in the rail transport industry is behind us, the 14th edition of the “Railway Congress”, whose organizers were Zespół Doradców Gospodarczych TOR, Wydawnictwo Rynek Kolejowy oraz Forum Kolejowe . The conference was held on Thursday, November 14, at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw. The Railway Congress is one of the largest and most prestigious conference events in the rail transport sector. The program for this year's installment focused on evaluating actions on the part of the state regarding railroads - one year after the parliamentary elections, ideas on how to somehow influence the revival of the freight market, as well as the role of critical infrastructure and railroads vis-à-vis the resilience of the state. Conference participants took a closer look at the following issues, among others:

  • Quality of design, regulation and implementation of investments;
  • The cost of purchasing and maintaining rolling stock;
  • The “Poland in 100 minutes” program;
  • Changes for sustainable rail transportation.

The meeting was aimed primarily at those representing the world of politics, local government, science, business and industry. Each year the conference enjoys great interest among the audience, as evidenced by the high turnout of participants. This year was similar - the organizers managed to invite 800 participants to this year's installment.

The law firm HANTON Szalc Zięba & Partners was represented at the past event by Michal Zięba, PhD - Managing Partner, who acted as a speaker during the Railway Congress, taking part in the debate entitled. “Green rail. What will we replace diesel and diesel traction with?”

Participants' discussion during the session in question centered mainly around the following themes of topics:

  • Legislation of the new EC on green transport: what future for battery, hydrogen, HVO vehicles;
  • Will we have time to produce the rolling stock that will be needed in the next decade?
  • Electrification of more lines on PLK's rail network;
  • Green bid evaluation criteria, sustainable procurement, promoting green transportation with legal and regulatory instruments;
  • Energy efficiency - how to save energy.

The debate on green railroads was attended by Tomasz Dominiak, PR Manager, KomunikaTOR; Łukasz Boron, Prezes, CARGOUNIT; Maciej Grześkowiak, Dyrektor Projektów Strategicznych i Komunikacji, PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.; Ewa Karasińska, Dyrektor Działu Projektów Kolejowych, Centrum Unijnych Projektów Transportowych oraz Janusz Kucmin, Dyrektor Sprzedaży, Stadler.
